Anchoring

Anchoring: Referred to in NLP as a pattern. A picture, sound, touch or movement suggested to self or others that elicits a desired response or state. Psychologists recognize the patterns of anchoring as stimulus response conditioning. Anchoring is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Some people have states anchored to particular pieces of music eg: they’re playing or song. Remember when a parent of guardian spoke to you in “that” tone of voice as a child? Does it still evoke the same response, if only briefly? When traffic lights turn red, we stop. When they turn yellow, some of our fellow road users speed up. These are anchors. For an anchor to be effective it must be unique to the person, discernible to the person, timely in its application with the intensity of the state and repeatable.
